The directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium is a budgetary organization, the founder of which is the office of the President of the Republic of Lithuania. It set up its activities on the 31st December, 1997.
Under all its executed programs and funded projects, the directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium seeks to highlight the cultural heritage that is of great significance to the self-awareness of state and nation; to encourage cultural projects that are meaningful for the national future; as well as under the following occasion to aid at the representation of Lithuanian society, its culture and history externally.
Its key target is to hold and periodically revive the program of Lithuania’s millennium that is approved by the State Commission on the Millennium of the Name of Lithuania; to organize its projects and coordinate the implemented projects in cooperation the with other Lithuanian institutions.
Activity principles: In its activities, the directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium follows the legislation of the Republic of Lithuania, governmental resolutions and its regulations; during the decrees, it appeals to the proposals of the coordinative board under the directorate of the commemoration of Lithuania’s millennium as well as the experts’ findings in that way securing the democracy of the consideration process.
