Presentation of Lithuanian Books in Rome

On 29 October, the presentation of the book by Dalia Grinkevičiūtė “Lithuanians at the Laptev Sea” will be held in Rome in Ferrajoli Palace. This presentation is organised by the Embassy of Lithuania in Italy and the Italian Publishing House “Pagine”.
During the presentation, the history of Lithuanian exiles will be presented to the audience of Italy. The event will be led by Mr. Francobaldo Chiocci, a journalist and the editor of the Italian edition. Ms. Ieva Musteikytė, translator, who has translated the book to Italian, will tell about the creative contribution of D.Grinkevičiūtė into the literature of Lithuanian exiles. The presentation of the book will also be attended by Mr. Luciano Lucarini, the publisher of the book, Mr. Gustavo Selva, a Senator and famous Italian journalist, as well as Mr. Franco Venturini, the journalist of the Italian daily paper “Corriere della Sera”. Ms. Vytenė Muschick, the owner of the copyrights of the book, who came from Germany, will speak about the life of the authoress.
Ms. Dalia Grinkevičiūtė (1927-1987), the authoress of the book, a memoirist and doctor, in 1941 was exiled to Altai Region together with her family. In 1942, from there they were exiled to the Laptev Sea and in 1948 was brought to Kangal carbon mine in Yakut. In 1949, D. Grinkevičiūtė returned secretly to Lithuania, where she was hiding and wrote her exile memoirs. In 1950, she was traced and arrested, 3 years she was imprisoned in camps of Gorky Region and then returned to Yakut. After the death of J. Stalin, D.Grinkevičiūtė, entered Omsk Institute of Medicine, and then continued her studies in Kaunas Institute of medicine, and after its graduation, worked as a doctor in Laukuva. The writer was persecuted by Soviet security until her death.
